Dynamic Promos for Brown Brother’s Wines

Brown Brothers approached us to animate ads for their ‘Origin’ series of wines.

The wines were designed to evoke feelings of location and culture.
I was given 1 artwork asset from each, and tasked with designing a narrative that matched the same emotions.

It was important to me to match the same geometric art style, so I designed scenes that would be bustling with geometric, poppy, colourful movement.

To animate the many, many shapes with precision, flexibility, and consistency, I converted all the geometry to individual, animatable shapes. There is a pre-made tool for this (points-to-nulls), but I needed something more custom.

Every overlapping corner needed to share a single object. By default, there’d be 3 of 4 objects all in the exact same place. And I wanted to animate them all at once, so I created my own tool:

The tool also ran on all assets at once, resulting in a very speedy, bespoke workflow with unique results.

Part of the bustling energy was having colours popping in and out (like the sunset in one), using custom ‘Elastic Bounce’ expressions (like the umbrellas), and animating elements frame-by-frame to get the exact still-frame design I wanted (like unfurling the towel).
